Early Steps is Louisiana’s Early Intervention System under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Part C. The system provides services to families with infants and toddlers from ages 0 to 36 months who have developmental delays or who have a medical condition likely to result in a developmental delay. Physicians and other healthcare professionals are mandated by federal part C law to refer children between the ages of birth to three with a suspected developmental delay to Early Steps. Early Steps services are designed to improve the family’s capacity to enhance their child’s development. These services are provided in the child’s natural environment, such as the home, daycare, or any other community setting typical for children ages birth to 36 months.
